Shaan shares how he successfully grew his crypto newsletter "Milk Road" by applying lessons learned from Sam Parr's "The Hustle."
"I started with 38-40k subscribers from an old email newsletter. Then at the start of this year, around February, we began growing it. Now we have about 100,000 people on the list in just 5-6 months. We did some paid marketing, but about half the growth is organic.
My decision register for why to start Milk Road was simple - I thought I knew how to do this because I watched Sam do it from scratch with The Hustle. I figured if you took The Hustle + crypto, that would work.
The reason it succeeded was because people who read about crypto were crypto investors - a very valuable audience segment. These were people putting tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars into their portfolios. That made them extremely valuable customers for advertisers.
Each day, I wrote about what I was most curious about. That was the only guiding principle. It wasn't just news or announcements. The lead story had to be the thing I thought was most interesting - sometimes Twitter drama, sometimes a cool product, sometimes price analysis. That's very different than just hiring a journalist or aggregator to summarize headlines."
