A story about how someone tried to ransom the domain sarahslist.com, leading to an unexpected business discussion.
"I got this amazing email from a woman named Kristen. She writes 'I am holding sarahslist.com hostage. You don't know me but I obviously know you. I purchased sarahslist.com and turned it into a bombass website. I am willing to sell it to you for $20,000. This is a steal as I purchased it for $30,000 - I'm essentially giving you $10,000, you're welcome.'
She had built out the entire website based on our Sarah's List concept - about how my wife Sarah became a millionaire by picking the right companies to work for. The site had all our criteria: companies valued over $250 million, stable work environment, high salary, great benefits, but still potential to make you a millionaire because the equity could 5-10x.
Instead of being angry, we were impressed. Her emails were beautiful, her copy was beautiful. When I looked at her Twitter, I realized this woman Kristen is exactly the type of person I like to be around. She works at Expa, which is basically a company founded by Uber's founder Garrett Camp.
Do I think we should buy the domain? Absolutely not. But do I think I want this woman in my life and would love to work with her in some capacity? 100%."
