A story about how Ron Conway saved a struggling company with a single email, leading to their eventual $800M acquisition.
"Alfred Lin tells this story about when his company was on the brink of failure. They had a deal with a Fortune 50 company that fell apart, and without this deal, the company was dead. They had tried everything except reaching out to Ron Conway, who was a small investor but they didn't know him well.
At 11 PM, I wrote Ron an email saying 'Hey, you don't really know me, but I'm an executive at a company you're an investor in. We need a meeting in person with the CEO of this Fortune 50 company this week. If you can't make it happen, that's totally okay, but we may be going down.'
Two minutes later, Ron writes back in his typical style - immediate, short, and all caps: 'AM ON IT'
By the next morning, Ron had done it. We got an 8-figure contract with that company that led to a 9-figure contract. We were on the brink of death, Ron didn't know us, and he saved our company. Eventually, our company got acquired for $800 million."
