Kitchen Hardware Lab
Share
A story about entrepreneurs who turned their kitchen into a makeshift hardware lab, as told by Furqan Rydhan.
"I met these guys up in Seattle, and I jumped on a video call with them. I'm looking at their kitchen and I say 'Is that a 3D printer in your sink?' Their entire kitchen was just filled with machines.
I told them, 'You've got to get out of your house - I want to give you a home to do that properly.' That's exactly what I want - people who will just turn their bedroom into a lab. But instead of doing it there, they should come do it here where we'll give them better facilities, space, and a better place to sleep.
These guys took the Raspberry Pi trend and realized people would start with Raspberry Pis, then build custom boards. They developed a modular Raspberry Pi system where if you want a speaker, you can pick whatever speaker you want and just put that in. If you want to produce 2,000 units, they now have the ability to scale it for you. They essentially took the hobbyist world and found a way to scale it, and they started all of this literally in their kitchen."
