Million Dollar Pixel Website
Share
A story about how Alex Tew, at age 21, made $1 million in two months by creating a unique website selling pixels.
"Alex Tew was about 21 years old and he asked himself 'How do I make a million dollars in the next month or two?' He created Million Dollar Homepage and made it 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels, with each pixel costing a dollar. At the top it said 'Be a part of internet history.'
Companies would buy pixels because they thought if the site got traffic, they'd get clicks from their billboard space. By January 11th, the final tally was $1,037,100.
He then blew all the money over the next year - bought a condo, had parties, did what a 21-year-old would do. He thought 'I did it so easy the first time, I'm just gonna keep making hits.' Then it was 10 years of not having another hit, trying thing after thing, until he built Calm. Calm took several years before it became something, and now it's a $2 billion company in the meditation space."
