Felix Dennis' Costly Lifestyle
Share
A discussion about Felix Dennis, a famous entrepreneur known for his extravagant lifestyle and unique real estate decisions.
"Felix Dennis built this £5 million house that just sold for £4 million. It's one of the weirdest houses you'll ever see - mostly a pool in the middle, Treasure Island themed with palm trees and pirate stuff, but only has 2 bedrooms.
From age 35 to 40, he was addicted to crack cocaine. He died single, though he had a partner in an open relationship. He was doing psychedelics and open relationships before it was cool. In his book, he openly admits he spent north of $100 million on hookers and crack.
What's interesting is what happened to his money after death - his charity was focused on creating forests. He became like the Johnny Appleseed of England, owning thousands of acres of forests. This house was actually known for having all types of trees.
The takeaway here is forget about legacy - he built something he wanted. People always ask about resale value or legacy impact, but my reply lately has been 'I'm going to be dead, I don't care.' He spent his money the way he wanted and made something cool, even if it didn't make financial sense."
