Facebook Death Churn
Share
A story about a lunch conversation where the founder of Calm realized the massive scale of Facebook's daily user loss just from people dying.
"I remember once we were having lunch with Alex, the founder of Calm, and he just started cracking up. I asked what was funny and he goes 'I just realized - think about how many Facebook accounts shut down due to death.'
He calculated that every day there's probably like a million people who just die and stop using the service. He was amazed that Facebook had reached such a scale that the number of people who die and stop using Facebook in a single day is more than the total number of users some products will ever have.
It really highlighted how Facebook had reached this incredible scale where their total addressable market had basically become their actual market share. They had gotten so big they were running out of new people to add - they were even sending satellites to India because they literally needed more people on the web to keep growing."
