McDonald's Employment Legacy

Sam Parr shares a surprising statistic about McDonald's employment impact and their approach to entry-level jobs.

"There's this crazy stat where I think 1 in 16 Americans have worked at McDonald's. McDonald's is one of the largest employers in the world, and internally and externally when you're applying for a job there, they call it 'the world's greatest first job.'

The whole shtick is they're really good for people who are just starting out, and they embrace it. I think that's smart. When I think about my aunt who's been a cashier at a grocery store for 40 years - that's just her job, she still is - and when I think about self-checkouts and not having someone there at drive-through, and how 1 in 16 Americans have worked at McDonald's, it raises the question: do employers have an obligation to continue providing these minimum wage jobs to further society along? Otherwise, you're going to have to do some type of universal income."
