Amazon Trading Restriction Incident

A story about when Shaan Puri thought he committed insider trading while working at an Amazon subsidiary.
"When I was at a subsidiary of Amazon, I bought some Amazon stock. Then I realized - oh shit, did I just insider trade? Did I just get my hands dirty with big boy business?
They told me I needed to speak to the general counsel. I got an urgent meeting right away. I go in and the counsel asks what happened. I explained I made a trade during the restricted window, and as an executive I was ready to face the consequences.
He asks 'So how much was the trade?'
I said 'It was like $150.'
He just responds 'It's okay... my lunch is outside, can you bring it in before you leave?' He explained this rule was for actual executives at the actual company who make actual trades.
I was like 'Oh okay, gotcha' and just walked out. He completely dismissed me because the amount was so insignificant."
