TopTal's Bootstrap Success
Share
Sam Parr shares a story about TopTal, a developer marketplace that grew to significant revenue with minimal funding.
"TopTal, they got in trouble because they only raised like $800,000 or a $1,000,000 but they didn't convert the note or whatever so it was controversial, but they basically bootstrapped it to north of $100 million in net revenue. These marketplaces can be pretty freaking powerful. They seemed hard to get off the ground but they don't seem that hard if you're already working in the industry and it's a super niche topic. People ask me all the time 'Hey I wanna hire writers who should I hire?' and I'm like 'I don't know man, it's hard, I don't know who you should hire.'"
