Emmett's Speed Reading Talent

A story about Emmett (Twitch founder) demonstrating his exceptional cognitive processing abilities during company meetings.

"We would sit down and data science would be presenting some report on trends. I'm sitting there trying to read this 6-page memo, trying to stop yawning. Then you hear this little click - someone's pen is down. It's like when you're taking a math test and someone's already done.

Emmett would put his pen down and be playing Hearthstone on his phone. Then when they're like 'alright, we're ready to start the discussion,' he would say 'So on page 3, this chart actually has a wrong axis because if this was true, then the chart on page 7 would show this...'

I'm thinking - what is happening? How is your brain processing this much information this quickly and somehow always getting to the heart of the issue? We all spent our time and energy trying to parse out what's important - he immediately got to what was important, had the conclusion, had the follow-up question, and also identified why this paper wasn't very good in the first place.

Once I saw the brain doing that, I was like 'okay, there's just some cars that have more horsepower.' His oven burns way hotter than mine."
