Mint's Solo Founder Journey
Share
A story about how Aaron Patzer, the founder of Mint.com, built the initial product alone before achieving a successful exit.
"Aaron worked alone in his room by himself for 6 months building a prototype and then came out and convinced the world to come check out this product. He was really impressive and I have a lot of admiration for him.
The company eventually sold for $170 million to Intuit. The VCs were definitely disappointed when Mint sold out. Aaron's vision was focused on selling credit cards and TurboTax to users. He wasn't poor - he was educated - but he had a chance to cash out somewhere between $30-50 million.
After the exit, he moved to some remote area in New Zealand. He's a creative guy - he actually tried to start a sky subway system after Mint. He also started a software company for ambulances."
