Disney World Victory Phrase Origin

A story about how Disney CEO Michael Eisner created the famous "I'm going to Disney World" Super Bowl campaign during a dinner conversation.

"Michael Eisner, who was the CEO of Disney, was at a dinner with George Lucas and a couple that had just completed the first round-the-world nonstop flight. The food was taking time to come, so there was some dead time. Eisner asked them, 'Now that you've accomplished the pinnacle of your aspirations, what could you possibly do next?'

They responded, 'We're going to Disney World.' They all started laughing, and Eisner's wife said, 'That should be your slogan.'

Eisner thought about that, and with the Super Bowl coming up a couple weeks later, they called up the agents of the two quarterbacks - John Elway and Phil Simms. They offered them $75,000 and a free trip to Disney World if they said 'I'm going to Disney World' when interviewed after the game.

Phil Simms initially didn't want to do it, thinking it was bad luck to plan his victory celebration. But his agent convinced him, saying it was a great bonus for just saying one line. Simms won the game, and when interviewed, he turned back to the camera and said, 'I'm going to Disney World.'

It became such a thing that Patrick Mahomes tweeted years ago saying, 'Man, it must be the best feeling to be that quarterback who gets to say we're going to Disney World. I can't wait.'"
