"We saw the announcement on ESPN that LaMelo Ball is doing his own NFT. I read about the dynamic NFT part - how it updates based on the player's actual achievements in the real world. I thought this was genius and told Ben to find whoever made this.
Ben found the guy and scheduled a call. Turns out this guy's claim to fame before this was helping artists go viral on TikTok. He partnered with musicians and architected viral moments behind the scenes.
The LaMelo Ball NFT project did north of $300,000 during the first day drop. After that, other NBA players, including one of the most popular players on the planet, reached out to him saying 'Hey, saw the LaMelo thing, let's talk to my people, let's do my own.'
What made it special was that it's a dynamic NFT - like a Pokemon card that evolves. You can buy different types of cards, like an MVP card. Today it's worth not much because LaMelo hasn't won MVP, but if he ever wins MVP in his career, the card will evolve and upgrade because that achievement was unlocked in real life. It's like buying cheap options on LaMelo's future achievements."
