Clear Expectations Transform Performance

Shaan shares a story about how providing clarity to an underperforming employee completely turned their performance around.

"In the past 2 years, there were a couple people that we were considering firing. I had the mentality that once the question of firing comes up, it's obvious you should do it. But I realized I hadn't given them clarity on their role and what was expected, what winning looks like.

Before cutting the cord, we decided to clearly define expectations. Within 2-3 weeks of doing this, one of these people we were about to fire transformed into a star driver in that function of the company.

This taught me that before making the decision to fire someone, I needed to ask: Have I given this person clarity on their role and what's expected?"
