A story about a successful short-term rental investor who turned $15M into $35M through property investments.
"I met one person that's got $35 million in homes. He owns about 20 of them and he's currently making close to $1 million a month in profit. They were mildly wealthy before - worth probably $15 million from a business they sold. They invested a lot of it into short-term rentals and now they have a staff of a couple people who are full-time.
I met another guy who worked at a hedge fund - his name's Richard. He eventually quit his hedge fund and now owns $50 million worth of short-term rental properties.
The themes I'm seeing are:
- Institutional capital hasn't come into short-term rentals in a significant amount
- The numbers might be inflated because the economy is crushing
- A couple years ago, people were just buying places without doing much math and making 25% returns. Now it's more challenging but there's still a lot of opportunity."
