Mormon Billionaire Lifestyle

Sam Parr shares his experience visiting a billionaire Mormon family in Utah.

"After interviewing Steve Houghton on my podcast, I asked if I could come hang out with him, and he invited me to his ski-in ski-out mansion in Utah. I learned several surprising things during my visit.

First, I discovered his wife and two daughters are famous influencers. His wife Jen Houghton runs 'Turtle Creek Lane' with 1.5 million followers, where she decorates their home in crazy, over-the-top ways. The daughters are also influencers with huge followings.

Second, they weren't just Mormon - Steve was like king Mormon, on the board of BYU. This became apparent when my wife Sarah and I were waiting for coffee that first morning, which they don't drink.

The family had the most positive outlook on life I've ever seen. There wasn't a single "bring them down" joke - no teasing or making fun of each other. When I asked about this, they explained they're taught to be Christ-like, and Christ doesn't make fun of people. They had explicit, well-mapped out answers for everything they did or didn't do.

They were incredibly intentional about their values. When I asked why they don't drink coffee, they explained they're taught not to become addicted to or overly rely on things.

Their huge 15,000 square foot house was perfect for family gatherings. I realized it's a life hack for wealthy families - if you have a home big enough for your grandkids where everyone's comfortable, they'll want to stay there more, and you'll spend more time together.

We didn't have a private chef or anything fancy. Almost the entire weekend was just sitting around the kitchen table, cooking our own meals and hanging out. It was the healthiest family dynamic I've ever seen.

Tragically, just days after my visit, Steve was in a helicopter accident. He survived but it was a bad wreck. If you go to their Instagram, you'll see all ten family members surrounding him at the hospital."
