Lawyer's Income Explosion

A story about a 38-year-old personal injury lawyer who built a highly successful practice through word-of-mouth referrals.

"There's this 38-year-old personal injury lawyer who's been giving updates every couple years for the past 4 years. His background is he worked at one of the big law firms where you grind 80 hours a week, hoping to climb your way up to eventually make $1M after 10-15 years.

A friend of his got hurt and he said 'Hey, I'll represent you, just pay me whatever's fair.' He won the case, then a few other people started coming to him through word-of-mouth. He was doing this in the evenings while still working his main job. After a year, when his moonlighting income became bigger than his normal job, he quit to do his own thing.

Over 8 years from 2014 to 2022, his income grew from $300k to $600k to $800k to $1.2M to $3M to $5.6M to $6M to $6M, and this year so far $3.3M. He now has 5 attorneys working for him, handling about 300 cases per year. His current net worth is $15.8M, with $1.7M in a trust fund for his kids.

He's struggling with growth challenges because they don't have a CRM - everything's done manually and it's a lot of work. One of his goals is to automate a lot of their processes."
