Microsoft's Bootstrapped Profits

A story about how Microsoft was actually a bootstrapped business before taking minimal VC investment right before IPO.

"Somebody asked the other day what's the largest bootstrap business of all time and Paul Graham answered Microsoft. People are like 'oh they took VC' - no, they were printing money and they sold a million shares of Microsoft for a million dollars to a VC. They did not need the money right before they went public to get expertise.

That was a bootstrap business. The year before Microsoft IPOs, in 1980 money, they did 140 million in revenue and 38 million in profit."
