Lambda's Cohort Learning Success

A story about how Lambda School achieved unusually high course completion rates through a selective cohort-based approach.

"Lambda School switched to live cohort-based learning with a high bar for entry. Most courses, when Nick, Uber, Ramit, or myself sell them, we want as many people as possible to take the course - that's how you make money. You're like a college wanting to admit as many people as you can.

But Lambda School was different because they don't get paid until you get a job. Their incentive wasn't to let any joe schmo in - they only wanted students if they thought they would actually finish the course and were serious about it.

Because of the filter on the front end plus the format being live and in a peer group, they had 75%+ completion rates. That's why I invested in Maven, because they were making it easy to teach cohort-based courses. So far, cohort-based courses are the only thing I've seen where people actually finish the course."
