Chrome Browsing Payments
Share
A Chrome extension that pays users for their web traffic while creating a micropayment ecosystem for content consumption. The system values users based on their browsing behavior and spending patterns, allowing websites to bid for user visits and enabling easy micropayments for paywalled content.
Key Components:
-
Traffic Monetization System:
- Users get paid to visit specific websites
- Websites bid different amounts (e.g., 30ยข for ESPN, $1 for e-commerce)
- Users must stay on site for 30-60 seconds to earn the bounty
- Earnings collect in browser's "piggy bank" icon
-
User Value Scoring:
- Extension tracks browsing behavior and spending patterns
- Creates individual value scores for each user
- Higher-value users (frequent shoppers) receive higher bids
- Lower-value users (information browsers) receive lower bids
-
Micropayment System:
- Users can spend earned money on paywalled content
- Small payments (2-4ยข) for individual articles
- No credit card required - uses piggy bank balance
- Publishers can monetize content through micro-transactions
-
Business Model:
- Similar to Honey's approach but for "foot traffic"
- Captures value currently monopolized by Facebook/Google
- Revenue split between users and platform
- Validates demand through existing similar extensions having 1M+ users
