iCracked Campus Growth

A story about how iCracked, a phone repair service, grew from college campuses to a multi-million dollar business before being acquired by Allstate.

"They scaled through colleges. They looked at this business and figured out how to scale it on one college campus - they needed these runners who could cover this radius and repair phones. They just copy-pasted it across college campuses. They blitzed and in 30 days they were on 28 college campuses, which was amazing.

They got into YC - they were one of the only non-technical teams to get into YC. Then they figured out how to scale through SEO and press. They realized the press loves to talk about headlines like '24-year-old making $1 million doing relatable thing.' They just took that story and did it at the local level - Cincinnati guy making millions, whatever college they went to, they did it locally there. They started stacking so when you searched 'fix cracked iPhone' they could show up organically through these high authority publications writing puff pieces about them.

They had only raised $500K and were at $7.5 million revenue. Then they raised $50 million to scale internationally. At peak they got to $36 million in run rate, but it got harder and harder to keep up with the growth monster. The growth monster demanded they get to $100 million because when you raise $50 million, you've got to go huge. They just couldn't scale beyond that and ended up selling to Allstate."
