Furkan's Night Productivity
Share
A story about how Shaan's technical cofounder Furkan had an unconventional but highly productive work schedule.
"Furkan would roll into work at 11:00-11:30, and start his workday with lunch. You would think this is the laziest guy ever, but actually he was massively hardworking - he was just up until 5 in the morning on average.
At work, we would take breaks to play video games, and I asked him 'Why do you use your time this way?' He explained that during the day, he's basically trying to exhaust himself - having conversations, managing people, reading, eating lunch, working out. He's trying to get his brain to slow down and get into this half-sleepy state.
From midnight to 4 AM, that's when he would write his best code. He said 'Only my hands are moving, nobody bothers me, nobody talks to me, I don't have to meet anybody - I just go into flow state and work.' He figured out that for creative work like programming, you need to be more relaxed, less distracted, and a little loopy because it adds serendipity into your brain and allows it to play with different ideas."
