Emotional Flooding Through Memories
Share
A technique called "flooding" involves intentionally revisiting past memories through photos and videos to trigger positive emotions and improve relationships.
What is Flooding
- Concept shared by Tony Robbins as marriage advice
- Involves intentionally revisiting memories instead of passive entertainment
- Creates a "flood" of emotions and memories anchored to past moments
- Should be done consciously and intentionally, about once per month
Two Ways to Practice Flooding
- Personal Life Memories
- Watch videos/photos from significant life events
- Examples:
- Vacation memories
- Wedding photos/videos
- Important life moments
- Entertainment Nostalgia
- Revisit entertaining content from your past
- Examples:
- Old viral videos from your younger years
- YouTube classics from when platform was new
- Content that made you laugh in the past
- Note: May not hold up as well as remembered
- Modern content (like TikTok) often more sophisticated
- Still valuable for emotional connection to that time period
Benefits
- Puts you in an improved mood
- Creates connection to past experiences
- Helps maintain relationship bonds
- Acts as emotional time machine to simpler times
- Works even if done accidentally, but better when intentional
Implementation
- Set aside dedicated time (like Netflix session)
- Make it a regular practice (monthly recommended)
- Choose content with strong emotional connections
- Focus on positive memories and experiences
- Can be done alone or with partner/family
