Meta Attracts Top Talent
Share
A story about how Mark Zuckerberg explained his strategy behind Facebook's rebrand to Meta during an interview with Gary V.
"Zuckerberg explained two main reasons for the Meta rebrand. First, when you run a company with thousands of employees, it's really hard to get the message out internally. One of the best ways to get your company to realize you're serious about something is to talk about it externally. When a statement gets made publicly, employees read that press and say 'I guess we are committed to this, I guess that is a top level priority.' Product managers start adding features, and top talent switches to that division because they know it's an area for growth.
Second, we wanted to put a message out to the world. We announced we're investing $10 billion into the metaverse and AR/VR projects this year. When you say what you're trying to do, you'll get hate - we always get hate anytime we announce anything - but you'll also attract the people who want that vision to exist. You repel the people who find it off-putting and attract the people who want it.
By changing the name and making this massive investment, we're clearly stating this is our future, this is the bet. That will attract the talent we need."
