Podcast Success Diamond
Share
Eric Newsom's framework explains how to create a successful podcast by being unique in at least 2 of 4 key attributes.
The Diamond Framework
- Must be unique in at least 2 of these 4 attributes to create a hit podcast:
- What it's about (content/topic)
- Who hosts it (personality/expertise)
- Who it's for (target audience)
- How the story is told (format/production)
Common Mistakes
- Most podcasters only differentiate in one area
- Example: "I'll make a podcast about gorillas because there aren't any"
- Need a second unique angle (like being Jane Goodall or having exceptional production)
Success Examples

- Example: Targeting specific cultural groups lacking representation
- Similar to Amazon's strategy of starting narrow (books) then expanding
- Building passionate audiences
- Focus on topics/communities with deep engagement
- Target areas where people are highly invested in the content
Key Success Factors

- Can't fake it when talking for long periods
- Need to be genuine with audience
- Commitment required
