Sports Traveling

Shaan shares a story about how he connects with locals while traveling through sports.
"We used to go to Buenos Aires for 4 to 5 weeks. I would do two things: play basketball and attend Jiu-Jitsu classes. Basketball was something I grew up doing, so it gave me a native fluency even if I couldn't speak the language.
I'd go with my brother-in-law who loves Jiu-Jitsu. We went to Jiu-Jitsu gyms in Spain, and you immediately feel like you're one of the people. You're learning from them, and they have different techniques. Even if you don't speak the language, it's an incredible way to bond and get more out of the trip.
The Jiu-Jitsu community is particularly vibrant. You can go anywhere in the world and plug in. You show up and you're instantly part of it. They pull you in, everybody has a common thing to talk about, even though it's a very diverse group around the world."
