Health Foundation Framework
Share
Scott Galloway shares a Buddhist-inspired perspective on prioritizing health and finding true freedom in life, based on his experiences and observations as he's gotten older.
Health as the Foundation
- "The person with good health has thousands of problems, the person with bad health has one problem"
- Having your health gives you "51% of the game" already
- In your 50s, mortality becomes more apparent as friends die from unexpected health issues
- Health issues can progress rapidly - from diagnosis to death in just months
Don't Wait to Live
- If you're waiting for perfect conditions (washboard abs, perfect spouse, more money), don't wait
- Take advantage of the present moment
- Tell people you love them
- Be kind to yourself
- Enjoy yourself because time "starts to fall off a cliff"
True Freedom
- Initially thought money would provide freedom
- Money does relieve economic anxiety and provide options
- True freedom is releasing yourself from societal conventions and expectations
- Not watering down opinions to avoid criticism from political extremes
- Not being overly concerned with being shamed or disliked by strangers
- Still struggles to achieve this freedom despite understanding it
- Aims to "catalyze productive conversation that shapes better solutions"
Life Perspective
- "Nothing's ever as good or as bad as it seems"
- Much of your success and failure isn't your fault
- On your deathbed, you'll regret how upset you were, not what happened
- Be humble after success - "you're never more prone to a really stupid mistake than after a big win"
- Forgive yourself when things don't go well
Purpose in Life
- You're here to learn
- You're here to enjoy yourself
- You're here to be as kind as possible
- You're here to surround yourself with people who love you
- Trying to "get off this hamster wheel of constant ambition"
