Josh Kushner's Low-Profile Success
Share
Sam Parr tells a story about Josh Kushner's deliberate approach to building his reputation and business empire.
"Josh Kushner is another fascinating guy who has a similar vibe. At 24 or 25, he started Thrive Capital. Though he came from wealth, he raised money from I think Benchmark or General Catalyst to create this venture fund. He invested in Instagram, and a few years later starts Oscar, which became a multibillion-dollar health tech business.
Throughout the OpenAI drama and other stuff, he's been in the mix. He's done a really good job of building up this reputation. If you go to Thrive Capital's website, it literally just says 'Thrive Capital' - you can't find anything else. He does zero flexing, which in itself is the flex and reputation building.
Even if they try to give the image they're not trying, that in itself is trying. The guy does a really good job of carefully crafting his reputation while appearing not to care about it at all."
