A story about how Shaan learned about the reality of a consulting partner's lifestyle through his college roommate's girlfriend's experience.
"My roommate was dating a girl in college and her dad was a high-level partner at one of the big consulting firms - Deloitte or Boston Consulting Group. She shared that growing up, her dad was only home Thursday through Saturday. He would fly out Sunday and be at a client site from Sunday through Thursday every week. He'd fly back extremely tired, and that was the pattern for the first 18 years of her life.
When I heard this, I immediately crossed that 'safe path' of consulting off my list. If that's how the top performers in that field live, then I didn't want to do it."
