Sacagawea's Parenting Lessons
Share
Sam shares how reading about Sacagawea helped calm his fears about becoming a new parent.
"In preparation of having this baby, I was freaking out about her physical well-being, so I read the biography of Lewis and Clark. I remembered Sacagawea had a kid on that journey. It turns out she had a 3-month-old that she carried in a little sack across America for 2 years, even in winter.
That encouraged me - I realized I'm not going to hurt this baby. If Sacagawea could carry a baby across America in those conditions, I'll be fine."
The story helped Sam put modern parenting challenges in perspective and ease his anxiety about the physical aspects of raising a child.
