Silicon Valley Alternative Lifestyles
Share
A discussion about surprising aspects of Silicon Valley culture among successful people.
"Two things are way more common in Silicon Valley than I ever would have thought. First is swinging - it's super common in Silicon Valley. There's this thing with pineapples - if you go to a house and they have a picture of a pineapple that's upside down, it's a signal to others in the lifestyle. Same with wearing pineapple earrings at a party.
The second thing is drugs - either microdosing or normal dosing. There's a certain level of partying that I never did and never had the urge to do, but it's pretty common among this group of people.
I think what happens is if you're a nerd and suddenly you're worth a billion dollars or hundreds of millions, which is basically the same thing, and you can do anything you want - you want to do stuff. Also, if you're young and have money, you have to keep upping the ante consistently. Like Dan Bilzerian said in his book - he's had every woman he could want, private chefs, best cars, flies private, does the fanciest stuff, but none of it makes him happy anymore because he has to go bigger and bigger to help his dopamine work."
