Scooter Braun's Party Promoter Rise

A story about how Scooter Braun built his entertainment empire, starting from college parties to discovering Justin Bieber.

"Scooter Braun started at Emory University as a sophomore throwing parties. Through this, he met Jermaine Dupree's mom who owned a record label in Atlanta. He started working for the Duprees, bringing college kids to parties as a club promoter and making a cut from Jermaine Dupree's parties.

When he was 22, with less than $100 saved, he found this kid on YouTube who was 7-8 years old playing guitar and singing. Scooter thought 'this kid's gonna be a home run.' He flew the kid and his mom down to Atlanta and said 'I want to manage you.' The kid said 'I don't have a career' and Scooter replied 'You're gonna be a superstar one day.' That kid was Justin Bieber.

He went on to manage Ariana Grande and others, bought Big Machine Records which owned Taylor Swift's rights for $300 million. His company Ithaca Holdings eventually sold to HYBE (the Korean entertainment company behind BTS) for $1.05 billion. He now holds a 1% stake in HYBE worth $123 million, while Bieber and Ariana Grande each have $14.3 million stakes in the company."
