Joe Gebbia's "Luck" Question
Share
"On a scale of 1 to 10, how lucky are you?"
— Joe Gebbia
Sam remembers being interviewed by Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb, who asked him this question. Sam responded that he was a 9, explaining he was lucky for various reasons and tends to "get his way a lot."
When Sam asked why Gebbia posed this question, Gebbia explained that if luck is real, he wants to be around lucky people, and even if it's not real, he wants to be around people who tend to get their way. This question was used as an interview technique to assess a candidate's mindset and attitude towards luck and opportunity.
