Money Enables Artistic Freedom

Mike Posner shares how achieving financial security transformed his artistic freedom and decision-making.

"Taking care of my finances has been a big part of that. I'm financially secure - I don't need to make another dollar from my music again. So logically, I was able to talk to that voice in my head and say 'Hey dude, you never need to make a song that you don't want to make ever again. You never need to be in the studio with a person you're not a fan of ever again.'

That made me a much better artist. The logical part was knowing 'Hey, I'm okay.' You gotta shift at some point because when you're coming up, you say yes to everything - you don't know what opportunity is gonna work. Then when you get successful, you have too many opportunities, you gotta learn to say no. There's paradigm shifts along the journey.

The spiritual part is realizing what true wealth or abundance or success is. To me, true success or wealth is health - it's the ability to have joy in a present moment. If you can do that, you're a wealthy person. And if you're grateful for what you have, you're wealthy."
