Holloway's UFC 300 Gamble

A story about UFC fighter Max Holloway's incredible decision at UFC 300, where he chose to risk certain victory for a spectacular finish in the final seconds.

"Max Holloway was fighting Justin Gaethje for the BMF title. He wins all 5 rounds, so he's not even up 3-2 or 4-1, he wins all 5 rounds. At the end of the 5th round, he's basically broken this guy's nose, got him battered and bruised.

In the last 10 seconds, where most guys would circle around and raise their hands to tell the judges they won, he points to the middle of the ring, points down and says 'stand right here, neither one of us backs down' and just lets them swing as hard as they can to try to knock each other out.

This sounds savage, but what this actually is is incredibly courageous, brave, entertaining, and reckless and stupid all at the same time rolled into one. They both start swinging absolute haymakers at each other and then in the last second of the fight, he knocks the other guy out cold.

It would be like in basketball if LeBron James was about to win the NBA finals, and normally they're just trying to hold the ball, stall, let the clock run out. Instead, he handed the ball to his opponent and said 'No, come here, you have the ball, come to the middle of the court, everybody get off the court, one on one right now for the game, for the championship, for the glory.'"
