Amazon Leader Supports Unions

A story about Scott Heiferman, founder of Meetup.com, who secretly worked at an Amazon fulfillment center after selling his company.

"After selling Meetup.com to WeWork, Scott ended up getting a job at an Amazon fulfillment center. He didn't make a big ordeal out of this - he just puts it on his LinkedIn, someone finds it and shares it. He does a podcast where he talks about why he's at Amazon, saying he felt out of touch with average people and wanted to feel that again.

The interviewer asked him about the warehouse workers wanting to unionize. Scott said 'Look, I don't want to talk too much about that, but yeah that's where it was and I think it's a good idea.' He sort of insinuates that he was part of it. He doesn't explicitly say it, but the language he uses, he's like 'I don't really want to talk about it but I was there, I saw it all happening.'

He said 'You know it's funny, I'm an entrepreneur and I'm usually the guy who you'd unionize against, but I thought it was a good idea to have a union.' It's as if he was the one riling people up in the background. He's like this little Forrest Gump character, experiencing all these things in the background and potentially being a pivotal part of the story, but he doesn't really talk about it."
