Celebrity Business Empires
Share
A discussion about celebrities who built business empires beyond their entertainment careers.
Sam Parr shares several examples:
"Jimmy Buffett has Margaritaville, a subsidiary of Cheeseburger Holding Company. He's got 30 restaurants, vacation clubs, hotels, a retirement village, and tequila. Collectively, the holdings do about $2 billion a year in sales.
Dolly Parton has Dollywood, a theme park in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It's almost as big as Six Flags. People in the South are obsessed with it - that's where you go on vacation. She also has themed casinos across the South. Her estimated net worth is around $600 million.
Kate Hudson helped start Fabletics, which sells fancy athletic wear. Their 2020 revenue was $500 million.
Jessica Alba started The Honest Company, which just IPO'd with a market cap north of $1 billion. Her stake is worth around $130 million.
Rihanna was recently named a billionaire through her Fenty brand, which is killing it."
When asked which model works best, Sam responded: "Alcohol seems like the best. Conor McGregor recently did it - he sold Proper 12, and I believe his stake was worth around $100 million. You can charge $50 for a bottle, and there's a chance someone will want to buy that many times a month."
