Peter Rahal shares insights about the emotional challenges entrepreneurs face after selling their companies.
"I would say that going through the process, it took me a while to actually comprehend the money. I went from basically 75k a year to really crazy money. That process took me a while. In general, financial literacy is just not something I have good instincts on for some reason. It took me about a year or two to realize what it was.
Going through it, I just had kind of low self-esteem from being dyslexic. I didn't think I was great. I didn't think I was that special. Then I didn't realize you just get treated differently.
I would advise someone going through this to define the different options for wealth management. You can go with Goldman, they're going to see you, they're going to make you feel good. Just go through how to manage this money, because that's what you need to figure out immediately - what to do and how to do it. There are different categories and approaches based on your risk appetite or what you want to do. That's what I would help with - here's how you should think about it, and here's how to help them not waste their time."
