Funds Rarely Survive Long-Term

Guy Spier shares a study he did about investment fund survival rates over the long term.

"I did a study of this about 10 years ago using the Lipper database where I could look up all the funds around at the time. Out of all the funds that were around when I started, less than 2% are still around today.

Some people left the game of investing because they were utterly superb, made enormous amounts of money and decided to go do something else - a famous example is Nick Sleep. But in many cases, funds dropped out because they had an implosion of one kind or another. The key is - you don't want to be the guy who implodes."
