COVID Wartime Pivot

A story about how Hims & Hers responded to the COVID-19 crisis with strategic business decisions.
"We're in a very privileged position in that we have a material balance sheet of capital in the bank that gives us flexibility to get to where we're profitable. We're not dependent on raising outside capital, which is phenomenal.
We immediately instituted hiring freezes and comp freezes, then communicated this to the team saying 'We need to evaluate the impact of what's happening in the business. We have no idea what it'll be - it might be positive, it might be terrible, it might be completely trivial. Until then, let's all stay calm and stay as we are and learn and look at the data to make decisions.'
We're in that process right now of evaluating data in real time as it's coming in day over day and week over week. Until then, we're not making any big strategic moves until we can get a good sense of what's going to happen."
The team responded with incredible energy - it became a full-on wartime mentality within the digital office. We reprioritized to help the current situation, launching primary care offerings and expanding our telemedicine platform to help people stay home while still getting the care they need.
