Hint Water's 'Sweetie' Revenge
Share
Sam Parr shares a story about how a condescending comment from a Coca-Cola executive motivated Hint Water's founder to build a successful business.
"About 10 years ago there was this company called Hint Water. The founder Kara Goldin had this great story she shared at one of my events. She was drinking 10 Cokes a day, and she was on the phone with an executive of Coca-Cola. She said 'I'm gonna create a new version of water that just has a little bit of fruit in it and no sugar.'
An executive at Coke goes, 'Listen sweetie, Americans love sweet, this is never gonna work.'
This conversation inspired Goldin, and 17 years later, Hint does $100 million in sales. The story was so powerful that Hint ended up spending millions of dollars to promote this article, and it made them tens of millions of dollars in sales. I wasn't selling Hint Water - I was just telling a cool story about the founder, and in exchange, it made all these people want to buy this stuff. If you Google 'Hint Water sweetie article,' you'll see articles written about this article about how it was a huge success."
