Zuckerberg Meeting Missed
Share
Andrew Wilkinson shares a story about missing a rare opportunity to meet Mark Zuckerberg due to temporarily disconnecting from his phone.
"I had this moment in 2010 where I put my phone in my car and didn't look at it. My friend asked me out for sushi in Vancouver, which is about a 35-minute flight or 2-hour ferry from Victoria where I live. We had a great time catching up.
At the end of sushi, I got in my car and looked at my phone. I'd received an email from Mark Zuckerberg. I'd emailed him because I heard he was coming to Vancouver, and he didn't respond for 2 days. Then at 7 or 8 o'clock at night, I got this email that said 'Hey, do you want to go for a drink?'
I checked this email at 8:30 or 9, and there was literally no way to get to Vancouver after 9 PM - the ferry leaves at 9 PM, there's no flights. So I missed my opportunity to go out for a drink with Mark Zuckerberg one-on-one while he's out of his element in my hometown. I always think about that story whenever I block my email and do all these things to disconnect."
