We Work Remotely Sale

A story about how Jason Fried sold his job board "We Work Remotely" to Andrew Wilkinson, which now generates significant profit.

"We sold We Work Remotely to Andrew Wilkinson. We built the job board in 2 weeks and it was generating something like $30,000 a month with no work - literally next to nothing to do. It was all self-service automated, maybe there's a customer service question here and there, but essentially nothing.

The reason we sold it at the time was because we were selling off a bunch of stuff, consolidating to go all in on one thing - on Basecamp essentially. I think they got a very good deal, let's just say. The thing that bugs me about our decision is that it was the easiest money we made.

I wish we still had it. We could still launch another one - nothing says we couldn't do it again. We still own WorkRemotely.com. I think we might do something different, I have some ideas on that we might do at some point. But now I'm an investor in his company, so I own a little tiny piece of that anyway."
