Buffett's Personal Holiday Cards

Guy Spier shares a story about receiving a thoughtful, personalized holiday card from Warren Buffett that demonstrates Buffett's attention to detail and care for relationships.

"I get a holiday card from Warren in the post. It's from 2011, and on it he's crossed out Geico, Burlington Northern, Santa Fe, and McLean. Then he's got the right companies that he maybe would want to buy - ExxonMobil, Wells Fargo, Google - and there's Warren next to Father Christmas.

The card says 'Either I finish this list by Christmas or I occupy the North Pole' - probably it was around the time of Occupy Wall Street. But here's the key - he's scrolled on it 'Guy, happy holidays, I enjoyed your 2010 report - Warren.'

The other side's got nothing on it because who cares, maybe guys are gonna frame it. What makes it special is he's personalized it to me. When I received that, as Monesh would say, you needed to peel me off the floor. What am I to him? Of all the people that he knows - he's had dinner parties with Katherine Graham in Washington where he's met heads of state and heads of the commerce department and the Federal Reserve - and now he's sending that to me. He's showing this individual that he in some way just cares about me as an individual, and he's doing it in a pretty efficient way that allows me to get all excited and tell stories about it on podcasts. He understands this stuff."
