Noah Kahan's TikTok Breakthrough

A story about how singer-songwriter Noah Kahan went from being depressed during the pandemic to selling out Madison Square Garden, all starting with one viral TikTok post.

"There's this singer-songwriter guy Noah Kahan, he describes himself as the Jewish Ed Sheeran. He graduated high school and got a small record deal right out of school. He had a couple songs that were kind of hits, got to play on the Stephen Colbert show once, but that was about it.

The pandemic hits and he's living in LA trying to make it big. He decides to go back home to Vermont where his parents live. He gets depressed, eating bad food and smoking weed all day, wondering what to do with his career. He starts posting songs on TikTok and gets about 50,000 followers.

One night he writes a verse to a song called 'Stick Season' in about 20 minutes and posts it on TikTok. After 2-3 hours, no one replies and he's about to delete it. He was high on edibles at the time, ends up passing out, and wakes up to find the video got 200,000 likes and 100,000 comments.

This all happened in 2021. He finishes the song, it blows up, and two weeks ago he sold out Fenway Park. What's funny is that in 2019 he tweeted, 'I'm probably not gonna ever sell out Madison Square Garden, in fact I'm probably not even gonna sell out the shows that I have for this tour, but as long as you'll have me I'll keep writing some songs.' A few days ago, he sold out Madison Square Garden three nights in a row."
