Campfire Guitar

Mike Posner shares a story about how a campfire gathering motivated him to learn guitar.

"I was at a campfire situation and Psy was there and Tori Kelly was there. They were passing the guitar around the fire, and Tori Kelly sang this song - it was so beautiful. I had just written a song that day I wanted to sing, and I said 'Could you play the guitar for these chords?' She's trying to do it for me because I couldn't play the guitar.

I really wanted to sing my song but I couldn't do it and it didn't work. I remember leaving thinking 'That's stupid that I can't do that, that's never gonna happen again.' I'm gonna learn to play guitar - I need to be able to sing a song at a campfire.

Being an artist is about growing, about being a better artist than you were a year ago. Your relationship to music deepens your whole life. Art is not like the NBA where you peak at 30 and can't jump as high anymore. This is a lifelong thing - you can always get deeper."
