Ferriss Controls Brand Image
Share
A story about how Tim Ferriss carefully manages his personal brand, as told by Sam Parr.
"Tim came to my office after he invested in my company. He sees me drinking a Coke and asks if he can have one. I give him one, he chugs it fast and asks for another. I give him two more.
After our meeting ends - there's about 6 of us in this little conference room - he pushes the Coke cans my way and says 'You mind throwing those away for me?' I say yeah, I'll put them away. He just didn't want to be seen walking out with a diet soda can. That's how particular this guy was.
Whenever we work with Tim, if I write something and there's a mistake, he's on top of it. At first I thought he was being a pain, but then I realized - you're not being difficult, you're being exactly how you should be. You are protecting your brand. You want things in a very particular way. You're being demanding and I respect that.
That's when I realized I don't think I could ever be a personal brand because you have to guard that constantly. It has to be exactly a particular way every single time - that's how you build a really good brand."
