DC Inquirer Growth Tactics
Share
A case study about how a right-wing website called DC Inquirer achieved massive growth on Facebook in just over a month.
"A far-right website launched 36 days ago and it's already more popular on Facebook than the Washington Post. The DC Inquirer executed a scheme to manipulate Facebook's algorithm and ad platform.
They created articles with headlines like 'The Freedom Convoy is on the verge of victory in Canadian provinces' and got multiple right-wing pages to share them - pages with names like 'Impeach Joe Biden', 'I Love America', 'Keep Texas Red', 'Save America'. They were all posting the same content in a coordinated campaign.
The founder Brandon Gill created this network and quickly got over a million followers. Conservative content does significantly better than liberal content on Facebook because these groups feel downtrodden and like the underdog. Since mainstream media is typically left-leaning, conservatives think their voice is being stomped out, so they band together. You can see this in action - go to Breitbart and look at any random article - they'll have 20,000 comments. It's crazy.
The founder's bio hits all the key identity markers: Patriot, Proud West Texan, Businessman, Rancher, Conservative Christian, Dartmouth, Husband. He basically created a web of accounts all pushing the same message to rapidly grow his audience."
