Sam Parr's Manual Community

A story about how Sam Parr built the Trends community by manually managing engagement for the first 6 months.

"When we launched Trends, it went from an idea to a 3-4-5 million dollar recurring revenue product. All it was was a Facebook group and research reporting, but the Facebook group was actually the main product.

I was so damn active in there. Every day I would go in and post something interesting. I used to write posts on other people's behalf. I would message 40 people saying 'please go comment on this thing - this baller just joined and I want this to feel really active for him.'

I had to do that manual community management for about 6 months, but only for about 300 new members. With Trends, I think we ended up having 20,000 members total. The numbers you actually have to do that manual engagement for - whether it's new members or website visitors - it's actually not that high. You just have to tend to that fire and not let it go out."
